“FORHEX FAIR BECOMES AN IMPORTANT PLATFORM FOR SOURCING HANDICRAFTS”
— Rakesh Kumar
Jaipur, 13 August: The Chairman of India Expo Mart, Mr. Rakesh Kumar inaugurated the 7th edition of the Federation of Rajasthan Handicraft Exporters (FORHEX) Fair 2015 today at the Birla Auditorium in Jaipur. On the occasion Mr. Kumar said that FORHEX has become an important platform for the handicrafts, which are generally exported, to be showcased for the local markets. This has facilitated the local traders, emporiums, outlets to source the products. The items which were only meant for export can now become available for the local populace.
Mr. Kumar further stated that the handicraft sector continues to be a major generator for employment. The fairs like FORHEX give a further fillip to the local craftsperson since with the increase in the demand of products, there is a natural rise in the employment for craftspersons.
The Chairman lamented that the Government of India has reduced the percentage of the handicrafts in the focus sector from 7 percent to 5 percent. The trade has appealed to the Government to increase it back to 7 percent.
The President of the FORHEX, Mr. Dileep Baid said that apart from the fair – the organization is playing a pivotal role in promoting craftspersons by developing different clusters – ‘Rangai Chappai’ and Wooden Handicraft clusters in Chittorgarh, ‘Kota Doria’ Cluster in Kaithun and Handloom cluster in Rajpura. The products of these clusters are being showcased at the fair, he said.
On the first day of the fair today which was for B2B – a large number of traders and handicraft business persons visited the event and discussed the opportunities of sourcing of them. There are as many as 80 stalls at the fair with the special focus on the products made out of recycled and sustainable material.
